Inconel 718 Square Bars accounts for up to 50 % of the weight of aircraft turbojet engines, being the main component for discs, blades and casing of the high pressure section of the compressor and discs as well as some blades of the turbine section. The precipitation of this nickel – (aluminum, titanium, and niobium) phases in Inconel 718 Flat Bars is induced by heat treating in the temperature range of 1100 Degree F to 1500 Degree F. This is the preferred treatment in tensile – limited applications for Inconel 718 Threaded Bars as it produces the best transverse ductility in heavy sections, impact strength and low temperature notch tensile strength. Alloy 718 is a precipitation hardenable nickel-based alloy designed to display exceptionally high yield, tensile and creep-rupture properties at temperatures up to 1300°F. The sluggish age-hardening response of alloy 718 permits annealing and welding without spontaneous hardening during heating and cooling. This alloy has excellent weldability when compared to the nickel-base superalloys hardened by aluminum and titanium. This alloy has been used for jet engine and high-speed airframe parts such as wheels, buckets, spacers, and high temperature bolts and fasteners.

INCONEL alloy 718: For most applications, INCONEL alloy 718 is specified as: solution annealed and precipitation hardened . Alloy 718 is hardened by the precipitation of secondary phases (e.g. gamma prime and gamma double-prime) into the metal matrix. The precipitation of these nickel - (aluminum, titanium, niobium) phases is induced by heat treating in the temperature range of 1100 to 1500°F. For a proper metallurgical reaction the aging constituents (aluminum, titanium, niobium) must be in solution. If they are precipitated as some other phase or are combined in some other form, they will not precipitate correctly and the full strength of the alloy with not be achieved. To perform this function the material must first be solution heat treated (solution annealed is a synonymous term). If the material is to be machined, formed, or welded, it typically is purchased in the mill annealed or stress relieved condition. The material is then fabricated in its most malleable condition. After fabrication, it can be heat treated as required per the applicable specification.
